Adaptive Suspension and Road Previewing

An Innovative Way To Protect A Vehicle On The Road

Every year hundreds of thousands of vehicles are damaged because of road conditions such as uneven asphalt and potholes. To help drivers avoid damage to their vehicles, Lincoln has introduced an innovative suspension system on the 2020 Lincoln Aviator. This unique adaptive suspension system helps scan the road and make the proper adjustments to ensure drivers a smooth and incident-free driving experience.

How Does It Work?

The adaptive suspension system uses 12 sensors at the front of the vehicle to scan for irregularities on the road. When the system spots a pothole or other road anomaly, the vehicle will adjust the suspension to better absorb the changes on the road. For instance, when a wheel is about to hit a pothole, the suspension will stiffen to help absorb the shock of the change on the road. The system is able to take 500 reading per second and adjust the suspensions up to 100 times per second.

In addition to the adaptive suspension system, the 2020 Aviator also boosts a feature known as "road preview." This feature utilizes a front-facing camera to scan 50 feet ahead of the road. Working with the adaptive suspension system, the road preview feature can help make adjustments to any changes on the road.

The 2020 Aviator is a mid-sized luxury SUV that comes standard with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that offers up to 400 horsepower. There is also an optional hybrid engine that offers up to 450 horsepower. Fuel efficiency on the standard engine is rated at 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway.
