Lincoln Driving

It's wise to know the signs of an overheating engine. If you're not prone to checking your temperature gauge on your dash, you could miss a warning sign that could result in permanent damage to your engine. A ticking noise under your hood is common when temperatures get too high. Antifreeze coming from the underside of your vehicle is also something to look for. As soon as you see something may be going on, bring your vehicle into Grapevine Lincoln so that we can check the following:

An Automobile's Cooling System

The cooling system in your automobile is designed to do just that: cool your vehicle down. As pressure and temperatures start to rise in your engine, your cooling system will kick into gear with the help of various parts. They each have their role, and working together will allow your engine's temperature to remain stable. If any one part isn't working the way it should, this is when you may start to see temperatures begin to rise.

The Water Pump

Your water pump will work hard to make sure that coolant is running continuously through your engine. This coolant will work its way through your radiator, pump, hoses, etc. This is a critical component of the cooling process, and your water pump needs to be in good shape to make this happen.

The Cooling System's Radiator

Coolant runs through the radiator in your vehicle in a way that allows heat to escape out into the air. Some cars have a fan inside of the radiator that blows air through and out of your engine. We check for damage to your fans, radiator connections, etc.

Thermostat Function

Coolant runs through your cooling system and engine to help cool everything off, but the amount of coolant needs to be regulated throughout the time that you're driving. There is a valve inside of your thermostat that takes care of this. However, we've seen this valve become stuck open or closed. This affects how well your vehicle can cool down.

Belts and Hoses

It's common for our service technicians to see belts and hoses that have split or worn through. This is a much more catastrophic failure that doesn't take a lot of investigative work. We can quickly replace the part that is broken with an OEM part that we obtain from Lincoln.

If you're concerned that your engine isn't regulating its temperature the way it should be, contact Grapevine Lincoln for more information. We would be happy to help you with the issue, and we'll have you back on the road in no time.
