Shaking Lincoln

Shaking in your car can rattle your teeth and nerves. Shaking and vibrating may be due to a few different reasons. Sometimes it's apparent why the shaking occurs, such as if you just ran over a large pothole or your car was involved in an accident. Other times you might not be sure where the problem lies. Fortunately, there are some signs that you can watch out for that give you a better idea of where the problem is coming from. However, even if you can figure out the source, make sure to bring your vehicle to a certified mechanic for service and repairs.

Tires

One way to tell if the tires are the issue is to pay attention to when the shaking starts. If it begins with acceleration, the tires should be checked by a mechanic. Several reasons may be to blame. Tires that are above or below the manufacturer's recommended PSI (pressure) levels will cause shaking. The shaking may also be attributed to excessive wear in the tires' treads. The treads can also wear out unevenly on one or more tires. Shaking might also mean the tires need to be balanced or rotated. You may need new tires if the treads are too worn out.

Wheels

Wheel damage might also lead to shaking and vibrating. As with the tires, the wheels will likely start shaking more when the car accelerates. Sometimes, shaking caused by wheel issues is related to the lug nuts. Lug nuts are small parts that attach the wheel to the vehicle. If the lug nuts are not secured, they can produce shaking and vibrating in the wheel area.

Brakes

The brakes can also be the source of your car's shaking. The brakes contain several different parts that can wear out alone or in tandem and lead to shaking. Two parts that commonly wear out are the rotors and brake pads. If the rotors become warped or wear unevenly, the brake pads can't grip the rotors as they're supposed to, which leads to the car shaking and vibrating as you hit the brakes. The vehicle might also pull to one side or the other.

Engine

Engine problems are another possible source of shaking in your vehicle. One of the first places that you can check is the filter. The engine's air filter normally traps dirt, dust, and other particles to keep them out of the engine, allowing only clean air into the fuel lines. The engine's air filter can become clogged with debris and lose its effectiveness. The engine's radiator, which helps keep it cool, can also break and lead to overheating, shaking, and vibrations.

Axles

If the axles on your car get bent or twisted, you may notice shaking with driving and acceleration. The CV joints, a protective component, can also wear out and allow dust into the axles.
