If you're involved in an automobile accident, one of the first things you should do is call 911. Unfortunately, there are times when you cannot make that call yourself. You might be unconscious from the accident, or you might be in a situation where you cannot reach your phone to call 911. This is why most new Ford vehicles are equipped with 911 Assist. 911 Assist works with SYNC 3 to alert emergency responders when your vehicle is involved in an accident. It also relays important information such as the kind of collision you were in, how many seat belts were being used at the time, and whether an airbag is deployed.
Even though 911 Assist should be turned on by default, you can still use SYNC 3 to configure the program or turn it on if need be. To do this, first turn on your vehicle's engine and pair your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone with SYNC 3. From there, you should be able to access 911 Assist by going to the Settings icon on the Featured Bar at the bottom of the SYNC 3 touchscreen. Slide the button to on, and you should be good to go. You can also download your contacts onto SYNC 3 from your smartphone and designate up to two people as emergency contacts. After 911 Assist calls for help, it will also contact one of these two people on your behalf.
