The reason so many roadside workers are fatally injured each year is because most drives in the United Sates have never heard of Move Over laws in their state. In a staggering report that was released by the National Safety Commission, nearly 71 percent of all drivers have no idea what the Move Over law is.
The National Traffic Incident Management Coalition is reporting that each year over 200 roadside workers lose their lives at the hands of drivers not moving to opposite lanes. The laws state that when you come upon these workers, you must slow down and begin to move safely to a lane further from where these workers are present. If more drivers are educated about the law, then the fatalities of roadside workers will in time decrease.
