Under the guidance of parent company Ford Motor Company, Lincoln is preparing to expand domestic vehicle manufacturing starting in 2030. This transition to American facilities will roll out gradually over the coming years. At the same time, the brand plans to halt vehicle imports from foreign markets—most notably China—while centering its efforts on boosting U.S. output for both the Lincoln Navigator and Lincoln Aviator.
Why Is Lincoln Focusing On US Vehicle Production?
Several strategic factors drive Lincoln’s decision to build more vehicles domestically. Historically, both Lincoln and Ford have served as standard-bearers for American automotive manufacturing, and bolstering production at home reinforces their standing as industry leaders. Assembling core models stateside also helps mitigate tariff costs while creating thousands of new manufacturing jobs through facility expansions.
To execute this strategy, Lincoln is prioritizing the growth of two primary American facilities: the Louisville Truck Plant in Kentucky and the Chicago Assembly Plant in Illinois. The Louisville location serves as the manufacturing home for the Lincoln Navigator, while the Chicago site handles assembly for the Lincoln Aviator. As production ramps up for both flagship SUVs and foreign imports wind down, Lincoln will continue shipping American-built models to key export destinations, including Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.
The Legacy Continues
Shifting Lincoln vehicle production back to the United States is a natural continuation of Ford Motor Company’s heritage. In 2025, Ford led the country in both domestic vehicle assembly and vehicle exports, alongside employing more hourly auto workers than any competing brand. Today, Ford employs over 56,000 hourly manufacturing workers across the country—more than any other automaker in the U.S.
